Friday, November 16th, 2007-Monic Joint launches e-petition to 10 Downing Street calling for free parenting information in pregnancy

I have recently launched a new e-petition to 10 Downing Street, asking the government to provide a free booklet in pregnancy and/or website so that all parents have access to 24 hour information about positive parenting and discipline methods, including family bonding methods. While free parenting information is an ideal resource for all parents, this type of information will be especially beneficial to those parents who may be struggling, such as teenage parents, those with financial difficulties, women who are experiencing domestic violence or individuals who come from a childhood background of mental/physical abuse or neglect. Please sign our petition here http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Parenting-Info/

Tuesday October 23rd, 2007- Baby Show '07 Earls Court a huge success!

Thank you so much to each and every one of you who came to visit us at the show; your kind wishes, comments and enthusiasm were gratefully appreciated. We had a fantastic time, including chatting with Channel 4's 'Bringing Up Baby' continuum concept expert, Claire Scott as well as the opportunity to have a discussion with Dr. Miriam Stoppard about her thoughts on how bonding with your infant helps encourage positive brain development. We were also pleased to present actresses Angela Griffin and Nicola Stephenson with a goody bag from all of us at MummyMustHave, and found Georgina Bouzova of Stricly Come Dancing and Holby City and her new range, Barefoot Blondie simply fab.

Stop the Press: Please sign Monic Joint of MummyMustHave.co.uk's petition to 10 Downing Street to provide all expectant and new parents with free information in pregnancy to provide information and options on positive parenting, family bonding and healthy child discipline including alternatives to smacking. You can sign our e-petition here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Parenting-Info/

fqLastly, please look out for our MMH 'No Kick-offs Bath Cuddler®' in the Winter issue of F.Q. magazine in their 'Top Gear' section, and our MMH 'Stay-put Peapod Swaddle®' in the innovative product section of Baby Hampshire's Winter issue!

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 - The press release that went out speaking against Clair Verity's child care methods as endangering bonding has hit the Mumsnet.co.uk discussion pages: http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1372/406980?rnd=1192527782410

To view yesterday's press release re: Clair Verity endangering family bonding: http://www.pressdispensary.co.uk/releases/q99893.php

My response on their site was this:

Hello to everyone who has posted about my Clair Verity press release and comments, I appreciate your support! My 10 Downing Street e-petition will be up and running soon; it takes up to 5 days, but I am campaigning for the government to provide every pregnant woman/expectant family in the U.K. with an ante-natal parenting manual that will cover 3 key points:
1)Positive and confident parenting methods
2)Family bonding methods
3)Positive child discipline methods including how to avoid smacking.

I think one of the reasons why so many people fail and have to resort to putting themselves onto t.v. to get the only kind of free parenting help they can get their hands on is really sad. If the government were to offer guidance to parents within pregnancy I think there would be a huge reduction in the rates of child abuse/neglect, bullying etc...

Families all seem to be living in singular techno societies where they turn more to other forms of support rather to their own families and this needs to be improved. A family is a person's lifetime army, and the happiness and survival of the family should never ever be interfered with by anyone, let alone a childless woman who is advocating her 'Stepford Families' approach--a nation of robot children is not what we need! Anyone that encourages a recent or vulnerable parent to disassociate themselves from their child is encouraging child abuse. I will post the link for this petition as soon as it is up and running; you can check my blog page or press page over the next few days for this link. If you'd like me to email you when this link is up and running you can send me an email at contactus@mummymusthave.co.uk Once again, thank you for your support. Monic Joint

Monday, October 15th, 2007 -I have today issued a press release about baby care advisor Clair Verity's methods endangering family bonding. You can read it here: http://www.pressdispensary.co.uk/releases/q99893.php

Monday, October 15th, 2007 - Monic Joint to be featured in business section of Hampshire Chronicle. I am really pleased that the Hampshire Chronicle have arranged to do a piece about MummyMustHave.co.uk after the Baby Show '07 at Earls Court Oct. 19th-21st. Article details will be posted on this site after publication.

Monday, October 15th, 2007 -Monic Joint, U.K. family bonding advocate and Founder of MummyMustHave.co.uk announces e-petition to 10 Downing Street today- Monic Joint today sent in her e-petition to the Prime Minister, asking him to provide free information to all expectant or new parents providing guidance in 3 key areas: 1) Provide positive parenting and confident parenting methods 2)Demonstrate methods of bonding as a family 3)Give examples of how to discipline children positively, including advising against smacking. We are hoping that teaching parents about how to parent positively, bond with their new babies and knowing how to discipline positively will have an enormous proactive impact on preparing all new parents for parenthood and enable them to parent more easily and positively. This petition should be live in the next few days and we will post its link as soon as it becomes available throughout this site.

Sunday, October 14th, 2007 -Exciting new initiatives by MummyMustHave.co.uk in the works to help the U.K.'s most vulnerable mums and babies with bonding.

I am really pleased to have had a great chat this week with a local health visitors group, about participating in a local teenage mothers group. As a child of teenage parents myself, I personally know of the challenges that these young mums face when pregnant so young. I have also been in touch with 2 mother/baby charities to look at providing my 'Koala Carer - Family Bonding' book for free to these mums who are at special risk of an interruption in bonding fully with their infants or toddlers.

Friday, October 12th, 2007- Monic Joint, Family Bonding Advocate and Founder of MummyMustHave concerned about some of the advice being given on Channel 4's 'Bringing Up Baby' program/ by Clair Verity.

It would seem that parents are being given advice by one of baby care advisors on the show to leave your baby outside alone for 'an airing' or to sleep them alone in their cot in their own bedroom from day 1 of life. This directly contradicts our own beliefs here at MummyMustHave.co.uk, as we think that the best place for a baby is to sleep is in a cot in the same room as their parents up until aprox. 6 months, or longer if you practice Attachment Parenting. Unbelievable, such advice should really come with a health warning as leaving a child for such long periods alone is neither good for family bonding, or safety, especially going against current cot death recommendations. Training women to disassociate themselves from cuddling is especially dangerous advice for those for whom bonding may be at risk, like women suffering from post-natal depression, a recent traumatic birth, or for those who may have suffered an especially difficult or neglectful childhood. It is narrow minded of anyone who thinks that those of us who advocate being affectionate with our children are a bunch of 'tree huggers or lentil lovers'. What advice works for Ms. Verity's actor and music star customers is perhaps not applicable to the rest of society! As most parents know or eventually realise, the purpose of children is to enhance your life, not fit in with it. Turning off a newborn's crying is turning off their ONLY method of communication--how else do parents learn and develop instincts? By training your baby into silence you are training your instincts to become switched off at the same time. A newborn's cries are the only skill they possess to alert you that something is wrong. Anyone that needs help with their baby's crying needs to turn to their health visitor/community nursery nurse/G.P., not clutch at desperate straws from someone who is neither a parent, nor possesses medical qualifications. If you are finding it difficult to cope, get in touch with C.R.Y.S.I.S. charity for realistic help for crying or for babies with sleep difficulties alongside advice from the local health team in your community.

Thursday, October 11th, 2007-The 'MMH No Kick-offs Bath Cuddler' to feature in the 'Top Gear' section of F.Q. (Father's Quarterly) magazine!

I was very excited to hear that F.Q. magazine liked our Bath Cuddler enough to feature it in their pre-Christmas Top Gear section. We think its design is quite practical for little babies, as most parents will agree, they do often cry when lifted from the bath! We will be giving demonstrations of how to use this unique baby towel at the Baby Show, Earls Court Oct. 19-21st.

Thursday, October 11th, 2007- Our 'MMH Breastfeed in Style Poncho, and our Feeding/Carrying necklace is going to be in the Baby Show '07 Earls Court.

We are really pleased about this, as we think the washable suede fabric is sooo soft to the touch. If you are coming to the show and are looking for something to complement breastfeeding in public, come and have a look at our display!
